I used to develop full time, that is designing, programming and full development of websites. Of course that was a number of years ago, and my job now, while requiring a growing understanding of the internet, doesn’t see me coding or developing.

I’m starting to set up a small website in the evenings, just a small site I hope people will enjoy. It should be the sort of site I can set up and only touch once in a while.

I used to develop on Windows PC’s and of course now I’m on a Mac (actually my last year of full time development was on a Mac). Of course I had to get MySQL & PHP 5 setup on my Leopard machine – which I thought I’d screwed up and spent 3 hours trying to figure out. Of course I just needed to restart so MySQL would start with the right permissions – doh!

But by gosh am I rusty. Took me a bit to get my head around some CSS stuff again, and don’t ask how long it took me to remember how to connect PHP to MySQL. Still I’m now starting to make progress and it’s amazing how much is coming back. Of course being my own little project I’m being a little lazy on the development. If the idea works I’ve got a good developer friend of mine I’ll pay to build version 2.

Well I’m going to wrap it for the night – and go chill out in-front of the TV with a beer.
